Bremen Library Newsletter
APRIL 2026
Dear Bremen Library Patrons,
No foolin’ - it’s April already!! The birds have been greeting me with their songs each morning, and I am anxious to get on with some outdoor things! We are making some plans for sprucing up here at our little library, both inside and out. We’ve got some new bookshelves being constructed so I can expand our large print collection. There is some landscaping planned so that our outdoor space is more usable. I’ve gotten word that a local Eagle Scout candidate may want to tackle some storywalk posts to incorporate into that updated landscape! I’ve got 2 Thursday evening concerts scheduled for the summer so far, and some other fun talks and events in the works! Follow our social media on Facebook and Instagram for updates, and as always, I can be reached by phone, email, or “live and in person” here at the library with any questions!
Stay safe and be well!

The Life and Legacy of Frances Perkins
Thursday April 30 at 5:30 pm

Join us as we host Frances Perkins Center Programs Coordinator Mary Reid for a presentation on the life and legacy of Frances Perkins, the first woman to serve on a presidential cabinet. A champion of workers' rights and safety, Frances Perkins was Secretary of Labor for the entirety of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's presidency, from 1933 to 1945. She was the architect of countless New Deal programs and policies, including Social Security, unemployment insurance, the minimum wage, and bans on child labor. Frances Perkins' ancestral homestead in Newcastle, which she owned from 1927 to 1965, became a national monument in 2024. The Frances Perkins Center is now the official philanthropic partner to the Frances Perkins National Monument. This program is free and open to the public.
